SunnySideUP! Sewing Retreat 2021- Edge to Edge Quilting in the Hoop, Thursday AM - SG

Come join us as we learn to use our embroidery machines to get those quilts quilted! Using Amelie Scott's designs and in-the-hoop method, you will quilt a small quilt in class to learn how it's done. With this new tool in your toolbox, you can get started on those quilt tops you finished this year!

Supply List:

-Amelie Scott's 'Edge to Edge Quilting on your Embroidery Machine' (note, this book comes with a CD of designs in it and we will use one of these designs in class.
-Edge to Edge Expansion Packs 1-12 are also available but are optional; you may wish to have one or more of these designs in your library)
- From the 'Edge to Edge Quilting on your Embroidery Machine' CD we will be using the Baby Small designs A and B. Please have these downloaded to your machine or on a usb stick before you come to class.
-Fabrics: (If using flannels, be sure to prewash them as they shrink differently, then press with Best Press)
- Top fabric - solid or tone on tone, 40" x 40"
- Bottom fabric - any fun print, 45" x 45" (or whatever your width of fabric is)
- Batting - 55" x 55" (10 inches larger than bottom fabric)
- Binding - 1/3 yard coordinating fabric (The quilt will be cut down after quilting; excess is needed for hooping)
-Thread: - Your choice for quilting, use the same in top and bobbin (have your bobbin filled and ready for class.) If you like the quilting to show more, use a sewing thread; if you prefer a more subtle look, use embroidery thread.
-Stabilizer: - Polymesh stabilizer (for making your templates)
-Equipment and other supplies: - Embroidery machine cleaned and well oiled - Embroidery hoop and template - the smallest size to be used for this class is the Mega Hoop (150 x 400). You may also use the Bernina Maxi or Jumbo Hoop which may be easier to use due to the ratchet system and larger space. Be sure to bring the appropriate template and clips for the hoop you will use. - --NEW embroidery needle size 90 plus extras - preferably Organ Titanium Sharps
- Bernina Foot #26 or other appropriate embroidery foot
- Walking foot for the basting and binding
- Fabric marker - NOT air erasable!
- Rotary cutter with NEW blade
- Ruler at least 24" long
- Creative Grid yard stick (2-1/2" x 36-1/2") for marking and longer cuts
- Best Press spray
- 505 spray (to make your quilt sandwich)

Home Work (Pre-Class Preparation) *

- Pre-wash and press your fabrics using Best Press - Make a quilt sandwich with your fabrics and batting, centering the top and bottom on the batting. Use 505 spray adhesive to stick the layers together, then baste around the edges of the top fabric (using walking foot) leaving 5" of bottom fabric and extra batting hanging out around all sides of the bottom fabric. DO NOT TRIM THE BATTING OR BACKING FABRIC! - Using your fabric marker, mark center crosshairs in both directions the full width and length of your top fabric. We will put other marks on the quilt in class. - From the Edge to Edge Quilting CD, download the Baby Small designs A and B to your machine or to a usb stick for use in class.
